The Greatest Man In The World, Italian Style
I continue to be amazed by what’s “out there” Thurber-wise. The book cover above showed up on Ebay the other day. Thanks to an online translation I learned it is Thurber’s “The Greatest Man In The World” — a story that originally appeared in The New Yorker, February 21, 1931 (the magazine’s 6th anniversary issue)..
The piece was first collected in Thurber’s The Middle-Aged Man On The Flying Trapeze, published in 1935.
Again via online translation, I found that this is a pocket-sized publication, 46 pages, published in Rome by La Repubblica in 1997.
I can’t ID the artist who did the Thurber portrait, but I very much like the work. Wild hair!
