The Rejection Collections are a curious thing. While all the drawings are officially rejected drawings, some were created to be rejected. That's certainly a different motivation than drawings created to be accepted by The New Yorker.
Love this reframe around rejection not being failure but fuel. That physical box of worksheets is kinda wild - it shows the volume needed to find the gems. I've noticed this in my own work where the throaway ideas end up teaching me more than the ones that land. The part abot not wanting shortcuts really clicked, seems like the grind itself builds the sensibility that makes the good work possible.
